I want to commend you on the wonderful posts last week. I
appreciate how you engaged with the various discourses about specific
"superfoods." I learned a lot grading them and look forward to the
next round. I don't have specific prompts for you this week, though I can think
of lots of great directions that you may follow regarding added sugars, fat
types, and vegetarian diets. Last weekend I went to the theater to watch This
is the End. I am not endorsing this as a way to spend your money, though
there was a fantastic dialogue between two of the main characters about the
evils of gluten. It was very funny and it led to the two actors binging
on Carl's Junior shortly thereafter and cursing the wonderful evil that they
perceived gluten to possess. I suppose if you are flapping in the wind
and can't decide what you write about you you could consider any of the
controversies in relation to to the way your relationship to convenience food
products and whole foods changes throughout the school year or season. Another
problematic practice that relates to the three controversies this week includes
how our popular culture labels foods as "good" or "bad."
Our text steers clear of this and our Myplate project should help demonstrate
how the plate can be viewed more openly than many sources lead us to believe.
Best of luck as you complete this week’s assignments. I look forward to the
barrage of blog notifications.
